The initiatives have been overseen by ENAC and NUTRAWORKS founder Sandeep Gupta, who is also the chairman of the Standard Review Group for Nutraceuticals at Indian regulator FSSAI.
He has co-authored the compendium with Dr Anish Desai, from ENAC’s Expert Scientific Advisory Board. Dr Desai is also the director of Intellimed HealthCare Solutions and an honorary professor of pharmaceutical medicine at KEM Hospital in Mumbai.
Speaking of the rationale behind the publication, Gupta said: "When interacting with apex regulators, the major gap and lack of reference from industry is often in representing the scientific information and evidence in a suitable format.
“Therefore, we have presented the facts through this compendium, which might be very useful as reference point for some key nutraceuticals. The entire focus in this compendium is on the clinical studies and evidence for some of the very important nutraceuticals, which we believe can work alongside mainline therapy to improve the condition of people in disease states."
The compendium will be available both offline and online, including from the ENAC website and Amazon.
In relation to the organisation’s first International Nutraceutical Day, on September 2, Gupta added: “We believe science-based nutraceuticals will remain the strongest growth driver of the sector and we wanted to raise awareness of their potential.”
Dr Desai added: “We hope this will spread awareness among the healthcare professionals regarding the preventive and therapeutic benefits of nutraceuticals.”
