Salah Abdullah Al Rayeesi, a director of sustainability at the Ministry Climate Change and Environment, said that regular sampling and analysis by specialist teams monitoring water quality had not revealed harmful substances.
He also confirmed that an external audit included inspections of all fish markets last month, and concluded that consuming local and imported sea food would not be dangerous.
Al Rayeesi said that UAE safeguards had strengthened over the years by improving legislative and institutional frameworks related to food safety.
He added that the UAE has developed integrated and effective control systems on food products, including the construction of laboratories, while tightening food safety and control measures.
He pointed out that the food safety rating in the UAE has increased in the last three years to reach 98% in 2016.
