Based in Harrogate, London, UK, the artisan gin manufacturer won a double gold medal for its brand and sees it as a ‘springboard’ for entering into the Chinese drinks market.
Marcus Black, co-founder/MD, Spirit of Harrogate, said the award is a welcome boost for Slingsby Gin which is expanding into new regions with international plans on the horizon.
“We are thrilled to be able to add another international award to Slingsby's repertoire, particularly for our Navy Strength gin which is proving ever-more popular,” said Black.
“We have spent the last 12 months focusing on key areas in the UK and attracted a good following here, the next step for us is to expand internationally and explore new markets and opportunities. Whilst our brand and ethos are very much synonymous with Harrogate, we are excited to take the Slingsby brand to the next level."
Launched by Spirit of Harrogate in August 2016, Slingsby Navy Strength Gin is bottled at 57% abv and draws on the town’s natural assets taking water from the Harrogate aquifer, and ingredients from locally grown plants.
CWSA, held on February 20, 2017, includes 100 judges from China, selected for being the top buyers of wines and spirits for the market and are importers, distributors, retailers and sommeliers.
Wines and spirits enter from 55 countries and are ‘blind tasted’. Entries include wines and spirits already sold in the region and those wanting to sell to China.
