Ecolab reformulates floor cleaner in India

Ecolab has reformulated a floor cleaner to prevent pathogen transfer from the floor to food-contact surfaces.

The firm said it has added ‘sanitizing chemistry’ that lowers pathogen levels on commercial kitchen floors to its Wash ‘n Walk floor cleaner.

In a study, it found that 49% of floors and 66% of floor drains in commercial kitchens are contaminated with pathogens.

Data is from 100 test accounts screened for Listeria, Staphylococcus and Salmonella and is based on presumptive positives.

The product, recently launched in India, is the first one-step, no-rinse floor cleaner and sanitizer registered with the EPA as effective at killing 99.9% of Listeria, E. coli, Salmonella and Staphylococcus on non-food contact areas with a five-minute contact time, according to Ecolab.

Mukund Vasudevan, managing director and country head of Ecolab India, said it can help customers prevent foodborne illness outbreaks.

This enhanced product provides a sustained solution that goes beyond one-time cleaning to help keep pathogens from coming back. It also reduces feeding and breeding of fruit flies and helps eliminate odours when used in floor drains.”

Vasudevan added with repeated use, the floor cleaner lowers pathogen levels and keeps kitchen floors cleaner longer with an enzymatic formula that eliminates grease and dirt on floor tile and grout that can collect and harbour bacteria.
