Adept Technology receives $1m order for Lynx AIVs

Adept Technology has received an order of more than $1m for its Lynx autonomous intelligent vehicles (AIVs).

The customer is Techmetics Solutions, an automation provider to the food and beverage industry in Southeast Asia.

Robot deliveries are scheduled throughout the next year, beginning next month.

Return on investment for a Lynx mobile robot can be one year, depending on the application, said the firm.

Mobile robot growth worldwide

Ann Keffer, worldwide director of marketing at Adept, told FoodProductionDaily growth of mobile robots is occurring worldwide.

“China is one of the fastest growing robotic markets. We have successful installations of mobile robots in various industries throughout the Asia Pacific Rim,” she said.

“Some of the highest demand for our mobile robots is coming from Asia in manufacturing, warehouse/intra-logistics and semiconductor markets.”

Keffer said it is one of the larger deals Adept has done with the industrial mobile robots and the first in this market but did not reveal how many AIVs were involved.

“Mobile robot adoption is growing in F&B as well as in many other industries such as warehousing and logistics, manufacturing, electronics and hospitality,” she said.

“We have customers that use our Lynx mobile robots as transporters in food production and they are very happy with the performance.

“The vehicles allow labor to be moved to higher value-add tasks while improving efficiency and workflow.

“We will continue to increase the vehicle payload capability allowing us to address the heavier pallet-loads associated with the F&B market.”

Expand into new markets

Service industry specialist Techmetics creates automation products using technologies to meet clients' needs.

Rob Cain, Adept president and CEO, said it was excited to be working with Techmetics as it expands the mobile products into new markets.

"This order is a testament to the advantages Lynx mobile robots provide to customers, boosting transport efficiency, process traceability and lowering operating costs,” he said.

Adept Lynx AIVs provide traceable material movement in different environments. Lynx vehicles self-navigate, avoiding obstacles and selecting the best path to complete a task.

The vehicles work alongside people; can be deployed as a fleet to accommodate large operations; and can run in conjunction with the user's existing enterprise management system.

Mathan Muthupillai, Techmetics chairman, said: "We are excited to partner with Adept and deploy Lynx-based solutions into the hospitality, food and beverage market, where the robots' onboard intelligence, exceptional navigation, and safety features make them ideal for a host of transportation tasks."
