Molkerei Ammerland completes first GlobalDairyTrade SWP auction
German dairy cooperative Molkerei Ammerland has completed its first sweet whey powder (SWP) auction on the Global Dairy Trade (GDT) platform.

A statement issued by GDT said the auction, the first time SWP has been sold on GDT, had achieved a “credible market-based benchmark price” of US$1,295 (€998) per tonne.

“Today’s auction has given both sellers and buyers of SWP, an open-market price point for the first time," said Paul Grave, director, GDT. "I believe the industry will benefit from the improved price transparency that GDT offers.”

“We’re pleased to have a leading European dairy company introduce SWP to GDT, as we move towards meeting the strong demand for whey powder on the platform.”

Molkerei Ammerland announced it would be joining Amul, Arla Foods, DairyAmerica, Euroserum, Fonterra, Land O’Lakes, and Murray Goulburn on the Fonterra-owned auction platform in July 2014.

Welcoming the result of today's SWP auction, Ralf Hinrichs, CEO, Molkerei Ammerland, said it was thrilled to extend its "reach to a larger number of customers, and to transact with them mush faster."

“We’re looking forward to using GDT to grow our export market," Hinrichs added.
