SGS strengthens Malaysian market position through acquisitions

Inspection and testing service provider SGS aims to strengthen its position in the growing Malaysian food testing market through the acquisition of a leading regional testing business.

The takeover of Malaysian firms Consolidated Laboratory - which specialises in food and environmental testing - and Labservice, which specialises in water testing, was announced by SGS earlier this week.

The two companies are collectively known as Conserve.

Conserve, which operates out of Kuala Lumpur and Penang, employs over 70 staff and is expected to generate revenue of around €1.8m in 2011.

SGS, which employs more than 59,000 people and operates from over 1,000 offices worldwide, will add the acquisition to its already extensive portfolio.

“I am pleased with this acquisition which will strengthen our development in this strategic market. It gives us access to a broad range of skills and accreditations,” said SGS CEO Chris Kirk.
